Derivart is moves to a camping meeting

Derivart was at Gijón from from 5th to 9th of August 2008 at, to enjoy the SummerLAB Camp 2008. This event is a meeting point for digital creators, hackers and artists living in Spain. It promotes free and opens source tools for the creative creation hosted in Laboral.
While there, Derivart was developing new items for its project Casas Tristes, and soon you will soon see some new data visualizations and some new content,... all this assisted by the new fresh air of an amazing place in north east of Spain called Asturias.

DERIVART WIN THE MADRID PROCESOS 08

Derivart received one of the eight assistances for production projects of MADRID PROCESOS 08, with a new version of the project SpreadPlayer, originally started in 2004. SpreadPlayer rethinks the concept of financial data visualization thought using sound.
For this project Derivart collaborated with Eduard Aylon.

Solo exhibition in Abellò museum

"Intersections between: ART, TECHNOLOGY and FINANCE": It is the first solo exhibition of Derivart at Abello Museum in Mollet del Vallès (a town near Barcelona). This city is very special because it is the birth place of Jesus and Mar where they born and grown. The exhibition will be open 28th february to 11th of May. In the exhibition the visitors could see a selection of projects created by this art collective during the last two years.

Art for the iphone

"US Mortgager", an innovative and new type of US mortgage calculator. It is a new version of our project call "Hipotecadora". Both projects commenting upon the real estate bubbles in the US and in Spain. The calculators try to show how old you will be with a picture of your comic drawing face, when you finish paying a mortgager based on your current salary, and finally showing a cominc picture of what you may look like when you finally pay it off.

Derivart used the concept of finance art for the first time in its presentation to Dorkbot-Barcelona at Metrónom Gallery in 2005. In June 2006, Derivart opened, as a curators of the first exhibition about finance art at La Casa Encendida in Madrid and the titled exhibition is "Derivatives, new art financial visions".

Derivart is curating an art exhibition on finance and art,
titled
"Derivatives, new art financial visions." The exhibition will be held
at museum La Casa Encendida, Madrid. On the day of the opening, Fabio
Cifariello will perform Nasdaq Voices, a live financial concert that
involves a sound sound visualization of the Nasdaq stock market.
The exhibition will be open from June 28th to September 23d.

Derivart presents its latest curatorship project at ESDI in Sabadell (Barcelona)

Derivart gave a presentation at Escuela Superior de Diseño (ESDI) in Sabadell, Barcelona. The talk was part of the Esdiada (ESDI-day), a one-day annual event in which the school features the work of its faculty and students.
The event includes a fashion show, plastic art, installations of interactive art, and an academic presentation. In 2006, the presentation was given by Derivart, and it described its upcoming curatorship project, “Derivatives: new art financial visions.”

“One day I played at drawing finance,” exhibition at Espacio Incívics.

Derivart exhibited its latest pieces in plastic art at Incívics, a municipal art gallery in Granollers, Barcelona. The exhibition entails an artistic reflection on the current Spanish financial scenery.
The exhibition opened with “Ticker-Man,” the latest performance by Derivart. In it, artist Jesús Rodríguez undertakes the role of financial superhero. Against a background of music derived from the commodities markets composed by sociologist Yuval Millo, Ticker-Man created an oil painting that embodied the voices of the market. From numbers, to music, to numbers back again, Ticker-Man reflects on the mediated nature of financial representation.

The Obra Social Caja Madrid foundation awarded Derivart the Inéditos ’06 prize in support of its proposal, “Derivatives: new art financial visions.” (Click here for more information).
The exhibition was on display at La Casa Encendida (Madrid) from June 27th to September 3rd, 2006.

Daniel Beunza wins the 2005 Outstanding Paper Award in the sociology of communication and information technology.

The award was given for his article "Tools of the Trade" (joint with David Stark), which analyzed the organization of arbitrage in a Wall Street trading room. The prize was awarded by the American Sociological Association. According to the jury, the paper "address[es] socially significant and conceptually difficult issues in a way that blends theoretical sophistication and empirical depth."

Derivart presented its work on April 5th 2005 at Dorkbot Barcelona, the community of electronic artists based in Barcelona. In the presentation, Derivart introduced the concept of Finance Art, as well as its current lines of work : the "Parliament of Finance" (currently on exhibition at Karlsruhe's ZKM Center for Art and Media), the FinanceSketch and the SpreadPlayer.

Until August 7th 2005, Daniel Beunza showed "The Parliament of Finance" at the
ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany. The installation, developed jointly with Fabian Munisea, consists of a gallery of engravings with the
content of the Bloomberg screens used by Wall Street traders. With this
graphical exploration, Beunza and Muniesa consider the possibility of using the
digital tools employed in the capital markets to promote participation and
interactivity in the realm of politics. The installation is part of a
collective exhibition that explores different technologies of graphic and
political representation, titled "Making Things Public."
